How to make apple turnovers

Updated: Jan 28, 2021

You will need:

500g Puff pastry

300g Chopped Bramley apples

70g Sugar

1tsp Ground Cinnamon

1tsp Ground Nutmeg

2tsp Cornflour

Half tsp Lemon juice

1 Egg

(Optional - 1tbsp brown sugar)

Method:

1. In a saucepan over a low heat; add the apples and sugar and mix well. Then add the cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice and stir. Then add the cornflour and cook over a low heat until the apples are soften.

2. Roll out the puff pastry over a lightly floured surface. Then cut into 6 squares, then each square diagonally into triangles.

3. Then add a spoon of apple mix into the middle of one of the triangles, then using the beaten egg, brush all around the triangle and put a second triangle on top.

4. Using a fork press around the triangle, this will ensure the sides are sealed and will make a nice decorative edge. Then carefully put a small hole in the top of the turnover, this will make sure the steam can escape and the turnover won't explode in the oven.

5. Then using the remaining egg, brush over the tops of the turnovers. An optional is to sprinkle brown sugar over the tops.

6. Then in a pre-heated oven at Gas mark 5, 190 C or 170 degree fan assisted, bake for 25 to 30 mins or until golden.
