How to make Apple Hand Pies

You will need:

Filling:

200g Chopped Apple

2tbsp Caster Sugar

1tsp Mixed Spice

1tsp Cornflour

1 Eggs


Pastry:

200g Plain Flour

1 tbsp Caster Sugar

130g Butter

1 Egg

1 tbsp Water (Approx)

Method:

For the Pastry:

  1. Firstly, in a bowl, mix together your flour and sugar. The add your butter and mix in with the tips of your fingers until it resembles breadcrumbs.

  2. The add the egg and mix together, add water as required until it comes together as a dough. Put this in the fridge while we make the filling.

  3. Then for the filling, in a saucepan, mix together your apples, mixed spice, sugar and cornflour.

  4. Then turn the heat to low, and cook for 5 minutes until the apples have soften. Then take this off the heat and put this to one side while we construct the pie.

  5. Then roll out your pastry on a lightly floured surface. I used a 10cm cookie cutters to cut out 10 circles.

  6. Then on a pre-lined baking tray with baking paper, place 5 of your circles down.

  7. Add the filling into the middle of each circle, the egg wash around the edges of each pastry circle.

  8. Then top with the remaining pastry circles and press down with a fork around the edges to seal the edges Poke a hole in the middle of each pie to allow steam to escape.

  9. Then using the remaining egg to egg wash each pie.

  10. Then bake in a pre-heated oven at Gas Mark 5, 190C or 170C fan assisted for 25-30 mins.
