How to make a Marble Tray Bake Cake

You will need:

For the Cake:

300g Self-raising flour

300g Caster Sugar

300g Margarine/butter

5 eggs

2 tbsp Cocoa Powder

1 tsp Vanilla Essence

For the topping:

200g Icing Sugar

1 tsp Cocoa Powder

2tbsp Milk

Sprinkles

Method:

  1. Firstly cream together the butter and caster sugar in a bowl until well combined.

  2. Then add the eggs and mix well.

  3. Then add the self-raising flour and mix until well combined.

  4. Divide the batter into two bowls, to one bowl add the vanilla essence and mix well. And to the other bowl add the cocoa powder and mix well.

  5. To a pre-greased and lined tin (I used a 33cm by 23cm by 6cm tin), alternate dollops of chocolate mixture then vanilla mixture. Then slightly mix the batter in the tin so they have a swirl effect.

  6. Then bake in a pre-heated oven at Gas Mark 5, 190C or 170C fan assisted for about 40-45 minutes. To test that the cake is cooked all the way through, use a toothpick to put into the middle of the cake and if it come out clean it is ready.

  7. Then allow the cake to cool slightly.

  8. Then to make the icing, divide the icing sugar in to two bowls and to one bowl add the cocoa powder and mix well.

  9. Then add 1 tbsp milk of each bowl of icing sugar and mix together until combined and smooth.

  10. Alternate dollops of chocolate icing then white icing, then slightly mix the icings to create the marble effect while spreading over the cake.

  11. While the icing is still wet, sprinkle the top with the sprinkles.

  12. Then chop into the size pieces you want and enjoy.
