How to make Toffee Apples

Updated: Nov 2, 2021

You will need:

6 small or 4 medium Apples

200g Sugar

2tbsp Golden Syrup

3tbsp Water

1tsp Lemon Juice (optional)

Sprinkles (optional)

4/6 Skewers/forks

Method:

1. Firstly, wash your apples. You can either do this in the sink with running water. Or you can leave the apples to sit in a bowl of hot water for 1-2mins, this will help to remove the wax on the apples helping the caramel to stick to the apples. Make sure the apples are dry afterwards.

2. Then put a stick or fork into each apple. Then, prep a baking tray with baking paper and lay out any sprinkle you wish to use. Once the caramel is ready you will need to work quickly.

3. Then in a saucepan over a medium heat, add the sugar, golden syrup and water and mix well until all the sugar has dissolves.

4. Then add the lemon juice if using, the lemon juice will help the caramel not to crystallise.

5. Then bring your toffee to a boil and boil until it reaches a golden colour and should be 150C. If you don't have a thermometer you can test its ready by dropping a little into a bowl of cold water, if it instantly hardens it is ready.

6. Once ready, roll each apple into the caramel until coated. And if using, sprinkle the top with your sprinkles.

7. Then leave to cool before enjoying.
