You will need:
Pastry:
200g Plain Flour
1 tbsp Caster Sugar
130g Butter
1 Egg
1 tbsp Water (Approx)
Filling:
500g Chopped Apple
50g Granulated or Golden Granulated Sugar
1tsp Cinnamon
1tsp Flour
1tbsp Milk
Crumble:
150g Plain Flour
100g Caster Sugar
100g Butter
Method:
1. Firstly, to make the pastry. In a bowl, mix together your flour and sugar. The add your butter and mix in with the tips of your fingers until it resembles breadcrumbs. 2. The add the egg and mix together, add as required until it comes together as a dough. Put this in the fridge while we make the filling.
3. Then for the filling, in a saucepan, mix together your apples, cinnamon, sugar and flour. 4. Then turn the heat to low, and cook for 5 minutes until the apples have soften. Then take this off the heat and put this to one side while we construct the pie. 5. Then roll out your pastry on a lightly floured surface. I used a 22cm pie tin which I have floured to prevent sticking (but you can use butter), then line your tin with the pastry cutting off any excess which we will use for the lid. 6. Then fill the case with the apple filling.
7. Then make the crumble: mix together the plain flour and caster sugar until combined. Then add your butter in cubed and rub in until it resembles breadcrumbs. Then spoon on top of your apple mix.
8. Then in a pre-heated oven at Gas Mark 5, 190C or 170 Fan assisted; bake them for 45 to 55 mins.
